Backups are a key element of hosting. You worked very hard building your application or website. The last thing you want is to lose everything because of a hardware failure. The fact of the matter is, most of us will one day face that situation for some reason. Don’t be the next one to say: “our application is lost”.

Backups are an expensive aspect of an infrastructure. The cost varies depending on the level of backup you choose. In a simple configuration, this could mean replicating a hard drive to another. But for more serious backup cases, you will need to copy your data to another data system or to tape. If you really want to be secure, you will need to take the data to another location. And even if you do that, you need to make sure that the data was actually saved somewhere else (meaning more than just mentioning this in your contract …)

Offsite tape backups: this optional service includes backup to tape, which is regularly taken offsite. This backup allows you to keep archives of your content for longer periods of time. It also allows you to ask for data recovery within one business day.
